Thematic focuses for the course groups:
Group_OR_KT:
Using the high-resolution Copernicus dataset HR-VPP (High Resolution Vegetation, Phenology and Productivity), spatial and temporal patterns of vegetation in Austria and their growing seasons are examined for selected sub-regions.
Group_RG_KT:
The fragmentation of habitats and migration corridors in Austria poses an ever-increasing threat to the conservation of natural and self-sustaining wildlife populations. Within the framework of the project, a fragmentation index is calculated in order to identify critical areas in Austria and to present the overall situation in Austria in the form of a map.
ALL groups:
Research- or application-oriented projects developed in collaboration with the students.
Collection, processing, analysis, and visualization of spatial data.
Advanced application of GIS software (various software packages; advanced functions of QGIS with regard to landscape-related research questions).
Cartographic visualization, web mapping, storytelling & dashboards (ArcGIS Online: Experience Builder & Story Maps).
Within a predefined thematic area, focal topics are jointly defined with the students and worked on in small groups. The use of GIS software to solve spatial research questions is intended to foster flexible use of different tools.
