Content

- Lecture on characteristics of different fish families and species
- Lecture on different sampling methods
- Practical exercise on fish classification on both juveniles and adults (laboratory)
- Field trip and practical exercise, application of selected methods from the literature

Basic skills in fish ecology recommended (OEKB301110 - Ecology of fishes (in Engl.))

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

- Understand the development of the family tree of fish and the major differences between the different fish families

- Identify and distinguish native and introduced fish species in Middle Europe, both adult and juvenile life stages

- Understand sampling strategies to assess fish species communities especially in large rivers, how to plan comprehensive sampling campaigns given specific research objectives, and hot to apply different sampling methods
