Content

The students will meet regularly to present and discuss scientific papers on biomaterials and biointerfaces. Students will take turns giving presentations. All participants will take part in the discussions, which will be guided and moderated by the lecturer.
While building on the traditional journal club format, our focus will be on analyzing the assumptions and methodology applied in the presented papers and their suitability to obtain the conclusions claimed by the authors.
Hence, the presenter is expected to invest time in preparing a concise presentation of a paper chosen in their field to present the scientific question (hypothesis) and conclusions, as well as the methodology and results that underpin these conclusions. Emphasis in the presentation part will be to highlight and explain important ideas and methods to other students from other but related disciplines. The presenter and all other course members will then critically discuss the validity of the presented paper contents, which comprises the main task of the course.

Previous knowledge expected

None.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of the course, students can:
1.Identify and explain the methodological foundations and assumptions in scientific publications on biomaterials and biointerfaces.
2.Analyze the relationship between scientific data, methods, and conclusions.
3.Prepare and present concise summaries of peer-reviewed scientific articles to an interdisciplinary audience.
4.Evaluate scientific claims and formulate constructive feedback in scholarly discussions.
