The course links aquatic ecosystems with topics of the circular economy. Contents of the lecture focus on: basics in aquatic ecology and aquatic ecosystems; legal framework and regulations for the protection and management of water bodies; biogeochemical processes ( as base of water purification); limnology (habitat and organisms) of lakes, streams, and floodplains (algae, water plants, macroinvertebrates, fish); measures for the protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems, nature-based solutions;
During the excursion, students will solve different tasks in group work, guided by an App.

After successfull completion of the course, the students can:
* describe and explain the characteristics of different aquatic ecosystems
* describe and explain human impacts on aquatic ecosystems, with special focus on wastewater and waste disposal
* explain basic biogeochemical processes and their implementation in wastewater treatment
* apply Citizen Science methods for measuring abiotic and biotic parameters in aquatic ecosystems
* interpret the role of aquatic ecosystems as water suppliers and wastewater recipients within the circular economy
