Content

GPS-tracked wildlife and biodiversity governance
Students will explore the potential of GPS-tracking of wildlife to inform conservation policy and management in topics like wildlife crime, spatial planning of infrastructures, or food availability for wild fauna. To this aim the course includes practical sessions to analyze case studies involving environmental and other sectoral laws, and discussions on the methodologies and actions proposed in the scientific literature and/or carried out on the ground.

Basics in Wildlife Biology and Ecology

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will know different applications of GPS-tracking of wildlife in conservation management and policy, their potential, strengths and weaknesses. Students will also learn about the importance of implementation, enforcement and compliance with regulations for effective biodiversity conservation, being able to differentiate between these concepts. Meanwhile, students will gain familiarity with GPS-tracking data and different methodologies available to process them.
