The compulsory practical seminar is a mandatory part of the Bachelor's programme in Wood and Natural Fibre Technology (HNT) in accordance with the curriculum and serves as structured preparation and follow-up for the compulsory internship.
The aim is to support students in organising, carrying out and reflecting on their first relevant professional practical experiences.
At the beginning of the semester, there is a compulsory attendance session (90 minutes). This session serves to introduce the content, clarify organisational issues and provide targeted preparation for application and contact processes with internship companies.
Contents of the kick-off session:
• Short presentation on application basics (CV, cover letter, interview)
• Information on suitable internship companies in the industry and possible contact persons
• Explanation of the formal requirements for the compulsory internship and the performance record
• Regular attendance beyond this meeting is not required.
The compulsory internship must include relevant work with renewable raw materials.
Four weeks of full-time work or part-time work of equivalent total duration will be recognised. Recognition of apprenticeships or professional experience: An apprenticeship or other relevant professional experience may be recognised if it can be demonstrated that the work was relevant to the field of renewable raw materials. School internships will not be recognised!
Typically, tasks in the areas of research & development, work preparation, quality assurance, organisation, sales or production are taken on as part of the compulsory internship.

For the compulsory practical seminar, students should already have basic knowledge in the field of wood and natural fibre technology.

After successfully completing the compulsory practical seminar, students will be able to:
• name relevant companies and potential employers in the industry
• describe typical fields of work and work processes in wood and natural fibre technology
• independently prepare application documents and conduct job interviews
• contact companies and apply for jobs successfully
• present and reflect on their practical activities in a structured manner
• classify their initial professional experience in industry-relevant companies
