This course aims to both introduce the students to a set of relevant issues in transport and urban planning, but also to expose students to three crucial tasks of professional work:
1. To summarize a text for students’ own purposes and compare this against a “large language model”
2. To review a paper for an editor
3. To structure and write a review of a particular issue
The class contains 5 exercises which 4 are single authored, whilst the last can be a group work with the number of papers proportionally increased.
The topic of reviews, will depends on students’ own specialties. The students then will be asked to provide a brief description of the content, provide an assessment of the methods used, provide an assessment of the appropriateness of the data, provide an assessment of the validity of the conclusions, and write the recommendation/rejection of the paper for publication.
Each exercise will be about 200-800 words.
This course, in particular will be useful for masters and doctoral students who are working with their thesis and literature reviews.
