- Content
-
The course content covers principles of plant biomass processing, recombinant production of selected food additives, purification and analysis of small amounts of recombinant proteins from leaves, and experiments in the context of genome editing of crop plants.
The course will be blocked.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
The prior completion of basic molecular biology courses is recommended.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Students will be familiarized with plant cell cultures and gene transfer techniques and will be able to conduct experiments on the expression and purification of recombinant proteins from plants. Students will be able to develop strategies to improve crop plants for novel applications in the food sector or to use plants as production systems for recombinant products. They can analyze and classify modified plants and are capable of forming well-founded expert opinions on regulatory developments concerning GMOs and genome-edited plants.
