Content

This lecture series introduces students to the geographical, economic, and socio-political context of Australia, with a particular focus on Western Australia. It provides an understanding of Australia’s First Nations Peoples and explores Indigenous tourism, especially Aboriginal tourism in Western Australia, from both conceptual and practical perspectives. Through a special interest tourism lens and a comprehensive supply-side analysis, students will examine a range of case studies highlighting Indigenous tourism initiatives. The case examples will encourage critical reflection on the complex interplay between local aspirations, cultural heritage, and development opportunities. Ultimately, it equips students with insights to support sustainable and culturally sensitive tourism development in Indigenous communities.

Previous knowledge expected

No specific prior knowledge of Australian geography or Indigenous cultures is required, but students should have a basic interest and curiosity in Indigenous tourism related issues.
