The course gives an overview about the progress made due to the introduction of molecular biology and genomic techniques into plant pathology. It further describes the potential for the development of new applications for a sustainable agriculture, which is to the benefit of the society and the environment.
The participants obtain knowledge about the status of the research field and can identify open research questions and knowledge gaps. Challenges caused by crop plant pathogens for food and feed security can be estimated. New developments for plant breedings are explained and their implications for the society and environment are discussed.
