Content

Land-living animals suitable for bioindication and evaluation of central European habitats are presented with practical examples: Snails and slugs, grasshoppers, ground beetles, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, birds and selected mammals. In the laboratory and partially outdoors we exercise how to handle (identify, quantify, evaluate) these animals.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successfully completing the course, participants will be able to:

identify the selected animal groups at the respective taxonomic level practiced, using the identification literature introduced in the course;
assess the limitations of field identification for the respective animal group;
explain the characteristics that determine the suitability of animal groups as indicators of terrestrial habitats;
independently conduct field surveys of the species groups introduced in the course;
interpret data obtained through field surveys in the context of habitat analysis;
define important additional parameters for surveying and analyzing the animal groups introduced in the course within their respective habitats.
