Content

The available data standards for controlling and monitoring the flow of timber are introduced. Tools for analysis and interpretation are discussed and applied in exercises. In addition, the transport systems for timber are presented. The factors that influence the quality of timber during storage are also discussed. Measures for maintaining timber quality and handling timber in crisis situations are discussed. Planning examples are used to practice the construction and operation of wet and dry storage facilities. Practical examples and simulations are used to illustrate the effects of damaging events on the supply of wood.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic knowledge of forest harvesting planning, roundwood measurement, and timber harvesting is required.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successfully completing the module, students will be able to coordinate and efficiently organize timber harvesting and transport. They will be able to determine transport costs for different systems and use tools for planning and control. They will be able to develop resilient logistics chains for coping with damaging events and take changes in weather and climate into account in their planning. Students are able to plan the storage of wood after harvesting in accordance with requirements.
