The course will take place at UFT (Tulln) from November 16 to 27, 2026. A detailed schedule will be provided at a later time point. An informational meeting will be held via zoom in October (time tba later)

The course consists of four modules:

Michlmayr: Mycotoxins and their detection with engineered microorganisms

Svoboda: Gibberella fujikuroi infection of rice and secondary metabolites

Wiesenberger: Fusarium species - overview, molecular species identification.
Transformation of Fusarium graminearum, plant infection

Wieczorek: Plant-parasitic nematodes and plant defense responses

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Getting hands-on experience and an overview about the scientific fields of the participating groups.

Classical and molecular Fusarium Identification, basic knowledge on mycotoxins and toxicity assays as well as introduction to nematods (Methods: PCR/RT-PCR, Agar diffusion test, reporter genes etc., Fusarium transformation, plant infections)
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
