The course explores the many ways in which architectural form comes into being. Under the motto "Form Follows …", the course asks what shapes form: translation, knowledge tools, force, material, making and climate. After an introduction on how an idea becomes architecture, each session examines one driver through examples from across architectural history and different cultures – from ancient structures and Gaudí's hanging models to Frei Otto's shells, vernacular climate strategies, and Indigenous building practices. Tools, gravity, materials, and production methods are understood as active agents that condition what we can imagine and build.
