Content: Wildlife Management and Conservation in African Savannas: Context, Challenges, and Practice
African savannas are among the world’s most diverse ecosystems, where wildlife management is shaped by ecological processes, human activities, and socio-economic realities. This course explores the principles and practices of wildlife management and conservation in these landscapes, with a focus on savanna biodiversity, wildlife monitoring, habitat management, protected areas, human–wildlife coexistence, community-based conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources.
Previous knowledge expected: Basics in Wildlife Biology and Ecology
Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences): Through examples from major African savanna systems, students will learn about conservation challenges and management strategies involving key species such as elephants, large carnivores, rhinoceroses, and ungulates. After the lectures, students will be able to analyse scientific literature, and discuss management case studies focused on savanna landscapes.
