Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

* outline the importance of refrigeration for modern society, particularly with regard to food supply, and describe its practical applications.

* define and describe the terms “temperature”, “heat”, “energy”, “heat flow”, “power”, “cooling capacity”, and “coefficient of performance (COP)”.

* explain the thermodynamic principles of refrigeration and formulate the fundamental equations governing their limitations.

* compare and evaluate different technical methods of refrigeration, including their respective advantages and disadvantages.

* identify and calculate the most important parameters and performance indicators used in refrigeration engineering.

* design and size basic refrigeration systems independently and assess related technical quotations and proposals for plausibility.
