Duties of the executive phase
Landscape Construction addresses the sustainable use of building materials and techniques - for the construction of landscape architecture structures. This includes:
- Material and Construction Fundamentals: Core technical principles for selected design tasks in detailed/working design (continuation of Landscape Construction I).
- Construction Details and Quality: High-quality design implementation in detail planning and execution.
- Traditional Knowledge: Development and significance of garden technology and craftsmanship in landscape art and cultural landscapes in the context of societal, social, ecological, and economic aspects.
LECTURE PART
THE FIRST SESSION (Introduction, Information on the Practical/Seminar Part) WILL TAKE PLACE IN PERSON with mandatory attendance checking to confirm participation.
Terrain & Topography
- Structural shaping of gardens and open spaces; planning principles
- Construction elements, construction methods, soil stabilization / retaining systems
- Foundations for structures
Staircases & Steps
- Planning principles
- Structural types, construction techniques
- Use of Timber
Timber as a building material: wood species and engineered wood products, tropical timber
- Fundamentals of construction engineering, key timber structures, playground equipment; construction process
- Wood preservation and protection
Structural Design Fundamentals
- Dimensioning and structural calculation of load-bearing frameworks
NBS – Nature-based Solutions
- Nature-inspired, engineered concepts and structural measures
RWM – Stormwater Management / Rainwater Management
- Built infrastructure and support systems for natural water cycles
LCA – Life Cycle Analysis – Basics
- Objective evaluation of the complete life cycle of materials and construction techniques
- Raw material extraction, transport and logistics, installation and assembly
- Service life / durability
- Recyclability, urban mining, end-of-life, dismantling, and recycling/recovery
SEMINAR PART
CORRECTION AND TUTORIAL SESSIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN PERSON
In small groups, students will survey and analyze a specific site-based task. Based on this analysis, detailed working drawings (Ausführungsplanung) and technical details will be developed in accordance with applicable standards, regulations, and relevant product information, presented through appropriate plan formats and a project report.
FINAL PRESENTATION: Digital projector presentation and poster exhibition.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Basic knowledge of building materials and construction techniques (from Landscape Construction I, Constructive Drawing, CAD I & II, Building Materials Science, among others)
Independence in researching and analyzing material and technical information, as well as in drafting project reports and plan presentations
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Improve construction techniques knowledge and executive planning already studied in LB I.
Clarify the duties of the landscape planer/architect in the executive process. History and signification of Garden techniques and building craft.
Application of this knowledge on small building project. Team work.
