Design exercise for either
* a detailed design of a short section of open-country road or
* a design for a railroad section.
Electronic calculations, site plan, longitudinal section, cross-sections, and detailed design as a group project for a team of 3 students.
Procedure following the introductory lecture:
- Road alignment: Homework exercise with review sessions with the supervising teaching assistants, oral exam upon submission;
or
- Railroad alignment: Supplementary introductory meeting with D. Zierl, followed by a homework exercise with review sessions by personal arrangement, oral exam upon submission.

Road Alignment: Course LAWI100362 (formerly 856105) Road Design or the practical component of Course LAWI301549 (formerly 856034) Transport Planning and Highway Engineering;
For railroad alignments, additionally the course Railway system and railway construction (Specialization I).
