The course is designed as a project involving independent work in small groups. Assignments are completed in the respective small groups (3–4 people). (Attendance requirement: at least 70%).

Group 1 (Schinegger): RiverSpaces: River Spaces of the Future

Investigation of multifunctional river spaces using ArcGIS StoryMaps
Mandatory preliminary meeting: October 8, 2026; 10 a.m.–1 p.m. in the ILEN seminar room, 3rd floor, Simony House. Anyone who is not present at the first meeting cannot participate in the project! Additional sessions (attendance required) are held every Thursday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. through January 28, 2027.

Group 3 (Eder): LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY—Who Cares?

First session (attendance required): October 13, 2026; 10:00 a.m.–approx. 12:30 p.m. in SR 19/2 (DG, Oskar-Simony-Haus). Subsequent sessions every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Group 4 (Gruber): Winged Neighbors: Birds and Bats in Vienna
Bird and bat species relevant to nature conservation and their habitats in Vienna

First mandatory session: October 6, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in SR D3 / SIMH (SR 20). For additional sessions, see BOKUOnline. Field trip dates will be agreed upon collectively; individual mapping sessions are also planned.

Group 5 (Binder): From Regulation to the Field: Renaturation in Practice
From Farmland to Biodiversity Area Through Nature Conservation Planning

Using the example of a farmland area near Königsbrunn am Wagram, practical planning documents will be developed for a specific renaturation project.

Mandatory preliminary meeting: October 6, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in SR 04 in the Simonyhaus (SIMH-EG/07). Anyone who is not present at the first meeting cannot participate in the project! Additional dates: October 13, October 20, November 10, November 24, December 15, 2026, and January 12, 2027, as well as check-ins via Zoom as needed.

Group 8 (Stefan): Recreation Meets Nature Conservation on the Outskirts of Vienna

Investigation of nature and recreation areas near the city and development of planning options for nature-friendly recreational use and visitor management.

First mandatory meeting: October 8, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in SR D2 / SIMH (SR 19/2). Additional meetings will be held on Thursdays on October 22, October 29, November 5, November 19, and December 3, 2026, as well as January 14 and January 28, 2027. A site visit to the study area is tentatively scheduled for October 29, 2026.
