The course provides an in-depth exploration of advanced microscopy methods (including super-resolution techniques, single-molecule methods, spatial transcriptomics, atomic force microscopy, electron microscopy, chemical microscopy, quantitative image analysis, 3D and time-series analysis, experimental design, and critical data interpretation) and is a continuation of the basics course ("Microscopy and Image Analysis in Life Science – Basics"). In addition, practical exercises in advanced microscopy (atomic force microscopy, STED, single-molecule microscopy, Raman microscopy) and image analysis (single-molecule tracking, super-resolution reconstruction, force spectroscopy analysis) are included.

Participation in the basic microscopy course (“Microscopy and Image Analysis in Life Science – Part 1 (Fundamentals)”) is recommended. The course is particularly intended for Master’s students with an interest in advanced microscopy as well as PhD students planning to acquire microscopic images for their research projects.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

By the end of the course, students will understand the principles and applications of advanced microscopy techniques in the life sciences and will be able to apply single-molecule and super-resolution methods. They will be capable of selecting appropriate techniques, designing experiments with suitable controls, and critically interpreting results. In practical exercises, students will plan and perform an imaging experiment including sample preparation, image acquisition, and analysis. They will implement reproducible analysis workflows for single-molecule, super-resolution, force spectroscopy, and Raman data in accordance with the principles of good scientific practice.
