Hannes Frech

Of 400 submissions coming from 21 countries, Hannes Frech, MSc, from the Institute for Natural Materials Technology (IFA Tulln), and his co-workers, has taken home the "Green Product Award", in the product category "Kids".

The Green Product Award was initiated in 2013 and is targeting product designers, industrial designers, production companies, research institutions, universities and students. An international selection committee especially rated design, level of innovation, and sustainability.

Hannes Frech and team received the prestigious award for their "green" toy development, called "Bioblo". Innovative material, unique design, and the high pedagogical value were especially praised. "Bioblo" is based on the wood-biopolymer compound "Fasal BIO", and is completely oil-free, CO2 neutral, and recyclable. The recipes have been developed at the Institute for Natural Material Technology (IFA Tulln), a material that could be increasingly requested by toy manufacturers.

The development of Bioblo has recently led to a start-up company named "Bioblo Spielwaren GmbH" (www.bioblo.com), which is located at TZT Tulln. It is the first example of the fruitful cooperation between BOKU and the accent-business development program.
