Dental implant research at BOKU
At the Institute for Synthetic Bioarchitectures, ceramic dental implant surfaces have been investigated for years. The aim is to improve the ingrowth behavior (osseointegration) through new surface architectures. Together with a dental implant manufacturer, we recently submitted a strategy for non-chemical surface modification as an international patent.
As part of the NanoEHS call, we have been given the opportunity to apply our previous knowledge to a specific question: how do potential abrasions of such ceramics behave? What tent biological effects do we see in our human cell lines and how do our findings compare to conservative dental implants?
