High level negotiations on environmental migration

Students of BOKU and University of Vienna simulate a UN conference at the VIC. When 46 countries from all over the world meet, different interests clash in the pursuit of a resolution. For the time of his participation, BM Heinz Faßmann headed the Austrian delegation.

The conference simulation on Environmental Migration and Rural Employment is part and highlight of the joint BOKU and University of Vienna class “Negotiating change: Simulating an international conference for sustainable development". After a semester of preparation, the students meet for two days, Jan 17/18 2019, at the VIC to negotiate solutions.

What is a climate migrant? Who will finance mitigation and adaptation? How can the rural economy be supported effectively?

We were honoured by the visit of the Minister of Education, Science and Research of Austria, Prof. Heinz Faßmann who volunteered to represent Austria for the time of his participation.
