Baumschabl wins PhD Award
In his work, he succeeded in optimizing the autotrophic strain Komagataella phaffii, which uses CO2 as its sole carbon source. His optimized strain produces up to 600 mg/L lactic acid from CO2.
Particularly noteworthy is the discovery of a natural recycling pathway for the toxic by-product 2-phosphoglycolate by deleting the CYB2 gene. This could significantly increase the efficiency of CO2 utilization.
Michael Baumschabl's research has the potential to have a lasting impact on biotechnology and provide important impetus for future developments in CO2 utilization.
Congratulations!
