CE-SPACES4ALL: Accessible Rural Tourism

Accessibility is more than just accessibility for wheelchair users. Blind and visually impaired people also have certain requirements in order to be able to get around independently. As part of the Interreg project CE-SPACES4ALL, IRUB researched the barriers that visually impaired people face in rural tourism. The results are presented in an awareness-raising video.

Accessibility is often associated with a well-known symbol showing a white wheelchair on a blue background. In this context, “barrier-free” is frequently linked to accessibility for wheelchair users. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked that other groups of persons with disabilities also have requirements for an accessible environment, which sometimes differ from those for wheelchair users. The Interreg project CE-SPACES4LL has set itself the goal of investigating the barriers faced by blind and visually impaired persons in rural tourism. IRUB attempted to cover as comprehensive a part of the travel chain as possible: from travel planning and arrival to sightseeing on site and mobility at the destination. The results are summarised in a video that will subsequently be used in expert discussions to raise awareness of the requirements and needs of blind and visually impaired persons in rural tourism and to address relevant persons from all fields of action relevant to tourism and planning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8SH_IH99_M
