Presentation "Conserving a Living Landscape Through Coffee"
Mr. Pejathaya is the coordinator of KaadKaapi, a farmer-led initiative working to conserve the living landscapes of the Western Ghats. His connection to the region stems from a long-standing interest in wildlife, forests, and conservation, as well as a family background closely tied to coffee and agriculture. Over time, he became drawn to a question at the heart of KaadKaapi: How can conservation become economically viable for the people who live and farm in these landscapes?
KaadKaapi emerged from this question. Dinesh works with coffee growers in the Chikmagalur and Coorg regions of India to promote farming practices that retain native trees, protect wildlife habitat and connectivity, and produce exceptional coffees that can command higher value in specialty markets. This coffee is imported and distributed by Chicas Industry, based in Brno, Czech Republic.
We will also have the opportunity to taste their coffee during the presentation.
