Department NWNR at the Vienna City Marathon 2026

The 43rd Vienna City Marathon took place on April 19. A total of six relay teams from the Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Resources lined up at the starting line at the Reichsbrücke in early summer temperatures; five were sponsored by the Department itself and one by the Institute of Biochemistry. 

Runners from ten of the twelve departmental institutes were represented in the six relay teams, all of whom delivered outstanding performances! The joy of running and the networking among runners within the department across all institute boundaries were at the forefront of this group event and were highly motivating. Each relay team was composed of runners from four different institutes.

We would also like to thank the Rector’s Office, which did an excellent job of bringing our idea for a unified BOKU running T-shirt to life and is also offering it to all other sports enthusiasts. Thanks to the T-shirts, we were easily recognizable to spectators and other BOKU runners, which positively reinforced the team-building aspect of this event.

We are already looking forward to the 44th Vienna City Marathon.
