Welcome!

The research security team provides support and guidance to members of BOKU on issues related to research and knowledge security.

Research and Knowledge Security

BOKU University is committed to the highest standards of integrity and security in research and promotes responsible international cooperation. At the same time, we reflect on how the open exchange of knowledge can be responsibly balanced with the protection of sensitive information and technologies—particularly in the life and environmental sciences.

Research and knowledge security includes the proactive identification, assessment, and management of risks related to:

  • the undesirable transfer of critical knowledge and technology
  • malign foreign influence on research or researchers
  • violations of scientific integrity or ethical standards
  • international cooperation in research, technology, and innovation

The Research and Knowledge Security Team provides information and guidance on security-related issues, supports risk assessment in research projects, and strengthens secure research practices.

Support for Researchers

The research security team provides advice and support in the following areas:

  • establishing new projects or collaborations with third countries
  • hosting visiting researchers or fellows
  • conference invitations and research stays
  • projects with potential dual-use implications (civilian applications and potential military use)

Early consultation helps create clarity and enables well-informed decisions—without unnecessarily restricting the dynamics of international collaboration.
