Admission to Master's programmes with Bachelor's degree/diploma from Austria
Admission into Master's programmes is conditional on the successful completion of a relevant Bachelor's programme or other equivalent degree programme at a recognized Austrian or foreign post-secondary institution.
A different related course of studies that is at least at an equivalent level of higher education may require additional courses, which must be completed by the end of the second semester of the Master's programme.
Admission to BOKU University allows a maximum of 30 ECTS of additional courses.

Evidence of adequate proficiency of English (for English-language Master´s programmes)
*All documents that should be considered for the admission need to be included with the application. A subsequent submission of additional merits/courses will not be considered. It is in the applicants interest to submit a curriculum (course descriptions) in order to reduce the amount of additional courses.
regarding point 5:
The following certificates will be accepted:
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English
- IELTS Academic results 6.0 or better
- TOEFL (paper based 577 or computer-based 233 or 90-91 internet based, TOEFL Home Edition 95-100)
- TOEIC (at least 785 points)
- Completion of a study programme that was entirely taught in English from countries with English as the official language
- Successfully passed school-leaving examination (general university entrance qualification) in English from a recognized domestic or foreign educational institution, provided that the country of issue's educational regulations offer level B2. If the school leaving certificate does not confirm level B2 according to the Common European framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a confirmation from the appropriate ministry must be submitted.
From January, 1st, 2026, the new guideline for proof of English language proficiency in the context of admission to degree programmes will come into force:
For degree programmes that require proof of English proficiency, applicants must demonstrate English language skills at level B2–C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as part of their application.
The following documents are accepted:
a. A language certificate that is not older than three years at the time of application and which results in the English language level B2-C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In any case, suitable language certificates are:
• TOEFL iBT (incl. Home Edition) – minimum score 95 points
• IELTS Academic 7.0 (paper/computer based, at a test centre)
• Cambridge Advanced English – minimum score 180 points/Grade C
• Cambridge Proficiency English
• TOEIC – minimum score 885 points
b. Completion of the general university entrance qualification (Reifeprüfung) in English as a subject (written or oral) at a school in Austria or Germany.
d. Completion of a bachelor's degree programme of at least three years or a master's degree programme of at least two years, which was taught entirely in English, in an EU/EEA Member State, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or the United States.
An official confirmation that the entire course of study has been completed in English must be submitted with the stamp and signature of the educational institution. Proof of English-language courses, exchange semesters or study visits to an English-speaking country is not sufficient.
Further information:
For applications for a Master´s programmes from EU/EEA-citizens, submitted after September 30th for the winter semester or February 28th for the summer semester, admission to the respective semester can´t be guaranteed.
