Climate Change and Societal Transformation is an inter- and transdisciplinary Master's program that offers a systems science approach to the global climate crisis.
It integrates different perspectives: 1) a physical understanding of the climate system, its processes and drivers, and a fundamental understanding of climate change and its impacts, 2) a socio-ecological analysis of the drivers, actors and impacts of climate change and possible solutions, and 3) transformative approaches for a sustainable and just society, explicitly considering the global North-South dynamics.
The program provides fundamental knowledge of the climate system and climate change as a physical phenomenon, as an environmental threat, and as a social and political crisis, and related strategies and approaches to solutions.
The modularly organized program is offered in English. It is divided into four phases (see figure below): after an introductory and basic phase, students choose one of three possible specializations, followed by an integrative final phase and the master's thesis phase.
