The contributions edited by Manuela Larcher and Erwin Schmid, Institute for Sustainable Economic Development at BOKU, are dedicated to the diverse life realities of actors in rural, especially alpine regions from different scientific perspectives.

The authors from the University of Innsbruck, the Federal Institute of Agricultural Economics, Rural and Mountain Research, the University of Vienna and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna shed light on the topics of transformative processes and future prospects, social capital and quality of life, values and consumption preferences as well as land use and family farming. The book thus offers insights into the range of agricultural and regional sociological research and related disciplines in Austria.
