Prof. Dr. Cornelia Kasper, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Department of Biotechnology
Cornelia Kasper studied Chemistry at the University Hannover and received her Diploma degree 1994. She performed her dissertation at the Institute for Technical Chemistry 1995-1998 and graduated as Dr. rer. nat.. Until 2000 she was employed as EU liason officer at the University of Hannover. Afterwards she received a Habilitation-fellowship from the University of Hannover 2000-2006. She finished her Habilitation on “New approaches in cell culture techniques”and received the Venia legendi “Technische Chemie” (2007).
2000-2011 Cornelia Kasper has been head of Cell Culture and Tissue Engineering Group at the Institute for Technical Chemistry, Leibniz University of Hannover.
Her research focus: Tissue Engineering, design and development of bioreactors and optimization of process technology, functionalization and testing of biomaterials for Tissue Engineering application, development of procedures for stem cell isolation, characterization, expansion and differentiation. Furthermore she was head of young researcher group JRG “Large Scale Cultivation” within Cluster of Excellence “Rebirth” (from Regenerative Biology and Reconstructive Therapies).
Since October 2011 Cornelia Kasper has been appointed at Boku as University Professor (§98) at the Department of Biotechnology and Head of Institute for Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies. The research group within the institute is on development and optimization of processes and physiological cell culture conditions for manufacturing of stem cells and products derived from stem cells.
She has published more than 150 scientific contributions in reputed journals and several book chapters and is editor of several volumes covering actual areas in Tissue Engineering and Stem Cell Research within the series “Advances in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology” (Springer) as well as editor of textbooks within the series “Learning Materials” (Springer) on “Cell Culture Technology” and “Basic concepts of 3 D Cell Culture”.
She is also reviewer for many distinguished journal within the field of biotechnology / bioprocess and bioreactor design and enabling technologies for stem cell cultivation and expert reviewer for national and international funding agencies and member of international societies within the field of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.
