Animal Welfare Body
The protection and welfare of animals used for scientific purposes is regulated at European level by the Directive 2010/63/EU. Animal experiments for the development or production of new drugs, for the testing of chemicals, food or feed additives, for physiological studies or for the investigation of environmental effects must be carried out in accordance with EU law. Every animal experiment carried out at an Austrian university requires prior authorisation from the responsible ministry in accordance with the Animal Experiments Act 2012 (Tierversuchsgesetz 2012). Detailed information on the performance of animal experiments at BOKU is available after login.
