Responsibilities (§ 43 Universities Act 2002)

  • The arbitration board mediates in disputes between university members.
  • The arbitration board rules on complaints by the equal opportunities working party with regard to discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion or conviction, age, or sexual orientation through decisions of the university’s governing bodies.
  • The arbitration board decides on objections by the equal opportunities working party against the incorrect composition of collegial bodies.
  • The arbitration board decides on objections by the equal opportunities working party against the inadequacy of election proposals for the representatives of the senate.


Matters subject to legal proceedings (e.g. cases connected to study affairs, habilitation proceedings or cases pertaining to civil servant law) as well as performance evaluations (e.g. evaluation of exams and academic / scientific papers) are excluded from investigation by the arbitration board.
