Open-access area / Stacks

The open-access area can be reached via the entrance hall. Coats and bags must be left in the lockers located next to the entrance. For using the lockers you have to type in an individual 4-digit PIN-Code.
Please keep the number of the locker as well as the PIN-Code in mind!
Smoking, eating, or drinking (except water in resealable bottles) is not allowed in the open-access area. Mobile phones must be switched off! Please show consideration for all other users and avoid any kind of noise!
READING ROOMS The open-access holdings (about 50.000 items) are grouped by subject. Dissertations and theses of BOKU are shelved in order of accession and are located on the basement floor. Readers have free access to the book stacks and fetch their own books. Readers should NOT replace books, but leave them on the side shelves.
PERIODICALS READING ROOM The periodicals reading room has 26 working desks. The issues of the current year are arranged in alphabetical order.
Back runs of the last 10 years are shelved in order of accession in the adjacent room.
Older volumes are held in the closed stacks. To order these please send a request via BOKU:LITsearch. You need to go to the lending department to collect the journals you have ordered. Journals cannot be borrowed. Use them in the reading rooms or use the copy machines.
MAP COLLECTION The map collection is located in the journal reading room.
This collection contains several atlases and a selection of maps such as
- Austrian map (1:50000)
- Austrian soil map (1:25000)
- Austrian soil map (1:5000)
- General map of Central Europe (1:200000)
If you need colour photocopies you may borrow any of these maps for a short period by depositing your library ID or your ID card at the lending department.
CLOSED STACKS The closed stacks are situated at the basement floors of the Main Library. To order literature from the stacks you may send a request via BOKU:LITsearch. Books ordered from the stacks are retrieved at every full hour.
