Courses in the Linux PC/class room at BOKU-IT

In order to ensure the safe and successful running of your course in the Linux PC room (MUG3-EG/32, Muthgasse III, ground floor), we ask you to observe the following information and to pass it on to course instructors:

1) Account

All course participants need a valid BOKU account to work on the computers.

2) Software on the computers

The computers in the Linux PC room are currently running the Linux Debian Stable operating system.

On the PCs you will generally find OpenOffice, Mozilla Firefox and various utilities such as Gwenview or GIMP.

3) Use of non-installed software

Of course, you can use directly accessible, licensed software (software that does not require an installation process). For security and maintenance reasons, however, it is not possible under any circumstances to install additional software products yourself with admin rights! In the event that you require Linux programmes for teaching and practice in the long term (over several semesters), these can be included in the existing software configuration of the PCs if they are technically compatible with existing software. If there is a need for this, please write to linuxtrain-muga(at)list.boku.ac.at.

4) Use of the rooms

We request that you strictly adhere to the ban on eating and drinking in the room. This will help us to protect equipment and infrastructure from damage and soiling. There are hardly any resources available for cleaning the equipment (keyboards). We therefore ask you to leave the workstations as you would like to find them.

Please note: The course instructor is responsible for leaving the room clean and tidy. You can obtain the key for the Linux PC room (and also for the box) from the BOKU IT office in Muthgasse (‘Muthgasse I’ = Emil-Perels Haus, 1st floor, room: 01/51, class 39072).

5) Organisational matters

For room reservations, date changes and other administrative questions, please contact the BOKU-IT secretariat (boku-it.sek(at)boku.ac.at). If you are using a BOKU-IT training room for a course for the first time or have not used one for a long time, we recommend that you carry out a functional test beforehand (depending on your schedule) (beamer connection, PC operation, etc.).
