Spains Top Research Award goes to BOKU Viticulture Researcher


Dr Javier Tello receives Fellowship from Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Dr Javier Tello has been awarded a "Juan de la Cierva" post-doctoral fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The obtaining of this competitive fellowship will allow Dr Tello to work for three years in the Grapevine Genetics and Genomics department of the Spanish Institute of Grapevine and Wine Sciences, in Logroño (La Rioja, Spain).

Previous research of Dr Tello has been focused on the characterization of diverse grapevine diversity panels for different quality traits with breeding purposes, as well as on the development of novel methods for the high-throughput phenotyping of complex traits in grapevine.

Dr Tello is a post-doctoral researcher at the Division of Viticulture and Pomology, working together with Prof. Astrid Forneck to analyse the genetic structure of grape phylloxera populations in Europe.
