During his life, Gregor Mendel visited Vienna several times. He studied biology and physics at the University of Vienna in the early 1850s, but his attempts to pass the teaching examination failed twice. This virtual science walk will highlight several sites in Vienna that are associated with Gregor Mendel and serve as icons that convey his outstanding contributions to the present day. Starting from the site of the "rediscovery" of Mendel's laws of heredity, today's Gregor Mendel Street, the walk will lead past an almost forgotten Mendel monument, to his teachers at the University of Vienna, and finally to the Gregor Mendel Institute, which carries Gregor Mendel's legacy into the future.
This event is supported by the project nr. ATCZ278, G. J. Mendel's legacy to science, culture, and humanity, co-financed by Interreg Austria-Czech Republic. DE: ATCZ278, G. J. Mendels Vermächtnis für Wissenschaft, Kultur und Menschheit CZ: ATCZ278, Odkaz G. J. Mendela vědě, kultuře a lidstvu
