To mark the visit of Brazilian activists, we will be screening the documentary 'Arpilleras – Women Affected by Dams Embroidering Resistance'.
The movie tells the story of ten Brazilian women from five different regions affected by dams. Through an embroidery technique that emerged in Chile during the military dictatorship, they stitch their narratives of pain, struggle and overcoming the violations they have suffered in their daily lives. This form of sewing, traditionally considered a domestic task, became a potent means of resistance, denunciation and female empowerment.
Afterwards, we will discuss the impact of gender-based violence and strategies for resistance, with activists of the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB).
