anatomy and chemistry of the cell wall, cambial products, structure and morphology of the tissues of the plant body with the special consideration of wood, functional wood anatomy, wood aging, water tansport in wood and hydraulic vulnerability, freezing tolerance, biological optimization in wood, defects in wood, wood decay and symbiosis, impact of global change on wood production

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The general biological understanding of wood has to be awoken and deepened. The fundamental knowledge of the primary and secondary structure in plants are the supposition. A very important point are the developmental aspects from the meristem to the whole plant. Besides, the relation between structure and function should be shown and the reaction of wood to environmental factors, wound, stress, and so on are demonstrated. Moreover, it is shown how to combine fundamental knowledge with practical doing.
