The course offers an overview of the microbial sources and harzards of contamination, both in terms of product safety, based on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and on personnel safety based Biological Safety regulations.
The discussion addresses the microbiological quality and safety concerns of the pharmaceutical industry, but is sufficiently broad to cover the production of food and health-related products.
In this context the course will draw on selected subject matters and items from the following topics:
Building and facilities
Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization
- Previous knowledge expected
Basic inorganic and organic chemistry and microbiology
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
The course is designed to equip the student with sufficient information to determine hazard prevention and control measures for a variety of environmental and operational settings. The guiding principle is that a "wholesome" operating and manufacturing environment is a prerequisite in the delivery of safe products and services, under conditions safe for personnel and the environment.
