Based on typical silvicultural questions, problems in collecting proper data for monitoring are discussed. Typical examples are regeneration assessment studies, assessing damage within forest stands according to harvesting regimes, wildlife damage assessment problems and how are we able to assess the response of non comercial thinning, thinning, regenertion cuts, etc. within managed forests. Half a day is dedicated for some practical exercises and discussions at our experimental garden Knödelhütte.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Silvicultural treatments influence the stand development. Thus it is important to understand the interactions between silvicultural practices and the reponse in stand development. In reaching these goals, data need to be collected and interpreted to seperate stand management impacts versus other stand changes. The purpose of this course is to introduce principles of data recording systems according to management questions. We will select some examples for discussion.
