Previous knowledge expected

The students have basic knowledge of organic and polysaccharide chemistry. Preferably, the students have participated in 774314 "Biopolymers for sustainable utilization" or equivalent lectures.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students are able to discuss the process from raw material via isolation and modification to analytical procedures that are appropriate to describe changes inflicted by the respective procedures. They can evaluate appropriate analytical techniques to acquire the properties of the respective polysaccharide, e.g. cellulose or starch, and know how to present and how to discuss and interpretate analytical results.
