The course focuses on innovation and bioeconomy research in the context of the forest-based sector and extends current discourses by systemic perspectives to adequately consider technological innovations and suitable socioeconomic and ecosocial framework conditions.

• Understanding the scientific discourse with regard to the bioeconomy, circular economy, and sustainable development
• Especially in the context of innovation processes in the forest-based sector
• Insight into the following research fields as an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis of the wood-based value chain with regard to innovation
- Resource availability and market framework conditions
- Environmental assessment in the innovation process
- Societal perception of resource use, production processes and products
• Students learn about current discourses as a research context and as a framework for innovation processes
• Students acquire the competence to reflect on problems in the (wood-based) bioeconomy and to identify research gaps
• Students will hone their ability to engage in substantiated academic discussion based on scientific sources, structure their arguments and formulate research questions on innovation processes in the wood-based bioeconomy
