Content

Within the scope of this course an opportunity for students should be created to be socially engaged in the field of "service learning" during their studies. Either as a BOKU buddy for BOKU students with special needs (such as students with Disabilities, chronic or mental illnesses, partial performance disorders, students with language barriers as well as students with child/children or caregivers) or to take social responsibility due to commitment in Caritas institutions (Schule am Himmel).

This makes it possible for students to test the theoretical learning content in practice, to acquire key competences and to prepare for a future and socially responsible professional life.

winter semester
At an information event at the beginning of the winter semester, the participating students have the opportunity to learn more about the order of events concerning the course and get to know representatives of the “Tagesstruktur” and the “Schule am Himmel” of Caritas Vienna.
Those students who want to make themselves available as "BOKU buddy" can already network at this information event. It is a form of personal assistance for a fellow student with special needs for support. The aim is to prepare or impart the teaching and learning content for the person to be supported in a demand-oriented manner and to promote exchange between the students through joint learning or other activities.
Afterwards, students will be given limited and compactly relevant knowledge on social work, care ethics or dealing with diversity.

summer semester
Students spend the summer semester in the respective institutions. At the end of each semester, there will be a closing event during which the students will report on their experiences in the form of posters, presentations, short films.
