Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The level of performance has been dramatically increased by conventional cattle and pig breeding within the last decades. Students should be able to critically analyze the consequences of this development concerning longevity and product quality (milk quality, PSE-meat etc.). Alternative breeding objectives (lifetime performance vs first lactation performance, fitness vs lean meat proportion) should be explained.
