Content

This VU consist a lecture part and a practice part. In lecture part the theoretical basics (material models and computational models) are discussed. Building-materials like reinforced concrete, steel and timber are discussed in detail. There are given introductions to prestressed concrete, glass and carbon fibres too.

After this the calculation topics and structural design from special components are discussed. These components are: beams, tension bars, compression bars, (inclusive supporting pillars and frames with stability failure), foundations and plates. Calculation topics bases on the concept of the European standards (EUROCODE).

The individual theoretical chapters are completed by practical exercises. Beside this students have to work out a simplified project in a group (2 to 4 students, depending on the special problem).

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

First aim is to understand and use the assessment concept for simple components made of reinforced concrete, steel and timber. These components are: beams, tension bars, compression bars, (inclusive supporting pillars and frames with stability failure), foundations and plates. Second aim is to work in a planning group with a simplified project.
