Content

• Characteristics and applications of project management and application, especially in agriculture and rural development
• Project management standards, classic, hybrid, and agile project management
• Feasibility checks and systematic project selection
• Phases and types of project work
• Central classic project plans (scope planning, work breakdown structure, project flow chart, estimating effort and duration of activities, developing schedule and its control, resource planning, cost estimating, budgeting and financial planning, risk analysis, work package descriptions, interface design and analysis) and agile project planning
• Assignment of classic and agile roles, tasks and responsibilities in the project team, group dynamics and team development
• Quality management in projects
• Classic project realisation (motivation and organisation of work, controlling methods and getting project back on track) and agile project implementation
• Project progress reporting
• Project termination and evaluation, administrative project closure

It is expressly pointed out to the fact that the lecture is intended for students of the 5th semester according to curriculum. An untimely visit seems less sensible because then suitable previous knowledge and experiences are absent.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Objectives:
• Basic knowledge about classic, hybrid, and agile planning, realization and controlling of projects
• Knowledge about success factors and technologies of project implementation
• Practical experience with teamwork
• Development creative-conceptive abilities
• Training of soft skills

Learning outcomes:
Students who have completed the course are able to
• Check and typify projects regarding their feasibility,
• Understand the genesis of project management and different ways of integrating projects into existing organizations,
• Make profound decisions between classic (plan-driven), hybrid and agile (vision-driven) project management approaches,
• Apply procedures for systematic project selection and master basic programme management,
• Independently set project objectives and define a clear project assignment,
• Apply stakeholder analysis and management techniques appropriately in specific projects,
• Systematically plan and professionally implement project communication,
• Independently apply different methods of classic, hybrid, and agile project planning,
• Professionally contribute to project organisation and implementation,
• Critically assess project management documents and processes,
• List and assess the most important international project management journals, institutions and standards as well as certification options,
• Practically apply recruitment strategies to build a project team,
• Realise the basics of risk management,
• React to motivation crises and/or conflicts during the project work with adequate means,
• Conduct project reviews and secure lessons learned,
• Master the challenges of the project completion phase.
