Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of this course, students know and fundamentally understand the following topics:

Diversity of microorganisms
Fundamentals of metaolic conversion processes
Bioavailabilty, uptake of soluble and insoluble substrates
Metabolic energy balance of the cell
Biofilms, microbial induce corrosion
formation of flocs and cell aggregates
behaviour of mixed cultures, quorum sensing
Xenobiotica degradation
microbiology of selected environmental processes: aerobic/anaerobic treatment, biogas, drinking water purification, composting
sustainable technologies for the environment

The students will be able to analyse and evaluate existing sustainable technologies and als will have the capability to develop new techniques based on the fundamental interdisciplinary knowledge.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
