The SE Markets of wood and renewable resources provides perspectives and impulses on central state-of-the art market-shaping trends. The guiding theme for summer semester 2022 is the "European Green Deal - Austrian Perspectives".
The European Green Deal [1][2] aims to take transformative steps that are urgently needed to shape the world along a sustainable and resilient path towards climate change and ecosystem conservation and strives for carbon neutrality in the European Union by 2050.
The seminar will enable participants to grasp and connect the threefold contribution of BOKU beyond teaching by
1. investigating implications of the Green Deal for the Austrian forest-based sector,
2. analysing societal and policy frameworks on sustainability (and subsequently societal and policy requirements to achieve Green Deal goals),
3. discussing the role of the bioeconomy in achieving the objectives of the Green Deal
The following sections will be discussed in detail (i.e. background information) and, with the help of this knowledge base, potential pathways of action will be explored:
4. timber construction (green building),
5. biodiversity and sustainable management of wood in the forest-based sector
6. aspects of circular use.
In relation to the number of participants, six sub-topics will be treated following the overall aim of the seminar (background and possible contributions of the forest-based sector and renewable materials), worked out in small groups with the help of e-learning and discussed together in the seminar. In the context of these sub-topics, the contributions of the forestry and timber industry to the Green Deal will be specifically discussed.
